The problem

It was never a discipline problem.

You’ve built companies and led people. When your body stopped responding the way it used to, you did the reasonable thing and added more inputs. None of them were ever reading the same file.

A fit, smiling man with a towel over his shoulder after an outdoor workout
  • Your trainer

    Saw your squat.

    Has never seen your imaging.

  • Your physical therapist

    Saw your shoulder.

    Discharged you at six weeks.

  • Your surgeon

    Saw your scan.

Not the training that got you there.

  • Your physician

Saw your labs, once a year.

In an appointment of about eleven minutes.

The fix

One plan that connects the pieces.

It was never four small problems. It’s one problem nobody owns, and it’s why you can train three days a week and still lose a month to the same shoulder twice a year. Doctor of Strength reads your training, joints, sleep, nutrition and bloodwork together, so every change accounts for everything else.

Why this is different

Clinical insight and Monday’s session, in the same plan.

Each of these has a place. Only one of them is built to hold the whole picture, and it isn’t the one that can put hands on you.

Doctor of Strength: The only one that holds the whole file. The others still matter, and Foundation 90 works alongside them.

Why Doctor of Strength exists

What ten thousand patient visits taught me.

After more than 10,000 patient visits, I noticed a pattern. The patients who recovered in one to three visits were managing their sleep, exercise and nutrition outside of treatment. The ones who needed ongoing care usually weren’t.

Doctor of Strength exists to handle the part that happens between visits.

LaMar has helped not just with my exercise routine but has also guided me with a nutrition plan, highlighting the need to add in protein and fiber in my diet for a holistic approach to healthy living. Last year even after a severe ankle injury, I was able to continue with my training sessions as LaMar showed me ways to work my upper body while slowly rebuilding strength and restoring range of motion in my ankle over the last six months. I know that I would never have achieved the level of fitness that I have at my age, if not for the consistent and personalized attention given by LaMar in my training sessions.

I can honestly say I have never experienced a better trainer. LaMar taught me not just what to do, but why — how the body moves, how exercises work together, and how to train intelligently. I trusted LaMar completely and trusted the process we followed. Over the course of more than two years, I built muscle, lost fat, and never looked or felt better. Eventually, LaMar left personal training to pursue his dream of becoming a chiropractor. While we no longer work out together, his influence remains a constant part of my routine. I still begin every workout the same way we began every session — with foam rolling and a series of stretches — and I can still hear his voice offering visual cues, encouragement, and support. For me, LaMar is the G.O.A.T.

A lot of us go to the gym. You push weights around, but it's really when you're trying to be athletic that you really know a difference. I try to spend my time surfing, playing pickleball and staying active after 50. I just notice popping up on my board, doing it extremely well, and with ease. Even after three days of surfing, three to four sessions a day, I didn't feel tired. I felt great afterwards.

LaMar has been working with me for about a month now. The progress I've made in this time surpasses the 1 year timeframe I worked with another trainer. I really appreciate LaMar's approach in getting setup for success with the basic foundations; how to breathe properly, how to align your spine correctly when doing kettle bell squat lifts, how to ensure you are correctly formed and postured in each movement to essentially not only get the most effective results but also to ensure you are not going to injure yourself! Hands down, he is the most helpful, patient, knowledgeable and encouraging trainer I've experienced. I definitely look forward to my weight loss/ fitness journey with him at my side! Absolutely recommend him!

What gets measured

You run a business on instruments. Your body gets the same treatment.

Baselines are taken at the start, then re-tested periodically.

  • Strength across your primary patterns, tracked session by session
  • A pain and stiffness score from zero to ten for each joint that has been limiting you, collected every week
  • One capability marker that you choose at intake, stated in your own words: walking eighteen holes without the back going, a full day on the mountain, three days of riding without needing the week off
  • Sleep duration, consistency, and recovery status from your wearable
  • Body composition by DEXA
  • Bloodwork, using the markers I give you to request

A man in his fifties chalking his hands before a lift

Who this is for

  • Men in their late forties, fifties, and early sixties who still train and still compete at something.
  • Quietly organising their calendar around a joint that will not cooperate.
  • Already paid several people, and tired of being handed one piece of the answer at a time.

Who this is not for

  • Men who want a physique program. If the goal is to look a particular way on a beach in eight weeks, there are faster and cheaper options than this one.
  • Anyone who wants a plan handed over without a conversation. The assessment is not optional and the weekly check-in is not decorative.
  • Anyone in an acute medical situation that needs a physician first. If that’s where you are, I will tell you on the call and point you toward the right person.
  • Anyone who wants hormone therapy without the training, sleep, and nutrition work underneath it. I’m not the shortcut, and I haven’t seen one.

Questions

The short answers.

All questions
Is Doctor of Strength online or in person?

Doctor of Strength is fully online. Training is delivered through the Everfit app, check-ins are weekly and remote, and calls happen by video, so the program works wherever you live and travel in the United States.

Is Foundation 90 medical treatment?

No. Foundation 90 is coaching led by a licensed chiropractor, not medical treatment. Decisions to order imaging, prescribe or treat stay with your own physician, and Dr. Sheppard can prepare a written summary for them when your case calls for it.

Can I join if I don't live in California?

Yes. Dr. LaMar Sheppard is licensed in California, and clients elsewhere in the United States join the same program. Outside California the Baseline is $697 rather than $497 and includes a written summary for your own physician, who makes any decision about imaging or treatment.

How much time does Foundation 90 take each week?

Foundation 90 asks for three training sessions a week of 45 to 60 minutes each, plus one weekly check-in. Every phase has a travel version for a hotel gym with forty minutes, a rack and two dumbbells.

What does Foundation 90 cost?

Foundation 90 costs $3,997 paid in full, or $1,600 a month with a 3-month minimum. The Baseline assessment is credited in full against it if you start Foundation 90 within 30 days.
